Divorce among BabyBoomers

Watching the news yesterday, there was a lawyer on there explaining why the BabyBoomers Generation has a higher rate of divorces than other generations. It seems like our generation divorce rate has to do with us not needing each other after the kids have gone. The man and the woman both have careers and are going in different directions.In some cases the woman feels she doesn't need a man if her income is higher than his.(i'm sure I might get some flack for that statement). And the man feels he has fulfilled his obligations, and now its time to move on.

What ever happened to love? Nobody wants to be in love anymore. All it is now statements like, "you're holding me back", "I need to try other things". All this says is that you have forgotten the reason you got married in the first place.

Now, I do realize that some marriages don't work out for other reasons, but it seems that we have let go of our most important values for the lure of the buck, and that old saying that "the grass looks greener on the other side".

Well it might look greener now, but it still will need watering just like your other relationship.

Getting Older

Well I'm 65 now and some days I really feel it. Along with your social security check they should send you a reminder of things that will happen to your body, once you pass 60. I woke up one morning in so much pain in my body I thought I had bone cancer. Thankfully it was only arthritus. I tell everyone at work to call me their weatherman. When the weather changes I know it before the weather channels. We all want to get older, but it is not without some downfalls. But I thank God that I made it this far and every morning that I wake up is a blessing. God is good.

Job Hunting

It seems that the job market is null and void. I've been searching for a job now for at least 7 months. I used to say that anyone can get a job if you really want one. That doesn't seem to be true anymore, (at least for me). I'm starting to wonder if my age (64) has anything to do with it. Maybe the employers are thinking that by the time they finish my paperwork, I'll be ready to retire. I wish that I could assure them that isn't the case. I need a job, and I'm sure there are plenty other babyboomers out there who need jobs also. So if anyone reading this has any helpful hints to pass along, I would be interested in hearing them.

PS. Just because we're older doesn't mean we are not useful. We have plenty of knowledge and experience that we have attained over the years. "So don't count us out, use us".

Part-Time Job scams

There are part-time job scams out there that are offered over the Internet. They seem to target people who are retired and looking for some part-time work. One of these companies is Paid Shopping Providers. They offer you the opportunity to become a Investigative Shopper. They send you a contract to fax back to them signed, and a check to deposit in your account. I'm not mentioning any names, but I know someone who fell for this. Fortunately the bank caught it and stopped this person from making a big mistake. So Baby Boomers beware of this scam. Don't fall for Internet scams. If you need extra money, be sure to check out your potential employer thoroughly.

Is this a sign?

I renewed my AAA and the very next day I lock my keys in the car. Is this a sign that I am really joining the elderly, no matter how much I try to deny it? Resources like AAA, AARP, Senior Living Magazine and the like have great info on discounts that we babyboomers can use.  I suggest that we all check these out.

Baby Boomers Blog

Thanks guys, trying to keep a good look for the Baby Boomers blog is one of my concerns. We are entering a new cycle in our lives and need to keep up with the ever changing times. Baby Boomers Lifestyle

We as baby boomers are in the prime of our lives.  Years ago, when people were our age, their lifestyles were different. This generation is full of life. We eat healthier, exercise daily (some of us), and look forward to new things. Even though we are considered elders by the younger generation, we are more vibrant and full of life than they are. Those of us born between the years of 1946 thru 1964 are truly a different breed. So, live your life to the fullest and enjoy your future.

Always remember, A day hemmed in prayer, is less likely to unravel. 

Texas

Well Baby Boomers the weather here in Texas is changing for the better. For those of you who live in a different state, I suggest that you look into moving here. They say that if you can't make it here, you can't make it anywhere. Though the pay might be a little less than what you currently earn, the cost of living is less. You get more "bang for your buck" here in Texas. It's a big state, lots of room to move around. Your neighbors are not right on top of you. I don't here sirens and helicopters at night when I'm sleeping. It's nice and peaceful. I'm not saying that Texas doesn't have problems, but that its room to move away from the noise and hustle and bustle. Check it out if you're looking to retire some place where you can live a little more comfortably.

Baby Boomers and the cold

I don't know about the rest of you, but I can't handle the cold weather like I use to. It is cold here in Texas and 18 other states I believe. The temperature right now is 17 degrees and will be around 10 degrees tonight. Now being originally from California, that's cold. So bundle up in your long johns, hats, coats, furs and turn the heaters up.  Our bodies can't take it.

The Future

Now that we are at this age, what are some of the options that are available to the baby boomers? Are you going to retire and travel, move to the country (like my sister censixx), or just relax and let life pass you by? These are some of the questions that need to be answered. So give your opinion because you may be helping someone who is in deep deliberation on these things. All comments are welcome. 

Our Health

Our health! Lets face it, once we hit 50 everything seems to start changing. Arthritis, weight gain, and a whole lot of health problems we never thought of. The only viable options that we have to keep our health in check is to eat right, and exercise. So we should eat less of those fatty foods that we have become addicted to, and eat more fruits and vegetable's. Start some kind of exercise program that will improve your cardio-vascular system.
